Mojo Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have a question about Mojo not listed below? Submit your questions here.

  1. What do the music notes in the service list mean?
The blue music note means the Mojo user is online over the Internet. The green music note means the user is available on the local network. The red music note means the user is currently offline.

  2. Why are some of the songs/playlists in the service browser window different colors?
The grayed out songs in the browsing window indicate the song already exists in your own music library. This does not stop you from downloading the song. It is merely to help you browse services more efficently. The songs highlighted in red indicate the songs are protected by Apple's DRM. Therefore, you will need permission from the purchaser to play the songs. The playlists highlighted in green denote that playlist is currently subscribed to. This feature is to help you remember which playlists you are currently subscribed to without having to open your subscriptions.

  3. Can I browse the libraries of the iTunes music shares I see in iTunes?
In order to browse someone else's library, they must be running Mojo. Apple iTunes' DAAP protocol has a limited amount of connections per day. We created our own protocol to allow unlimited connections per day, along with connections over the Internet.

  4. Can I browse a service over the Internet?
Yes, in order to browse someone's library over the Internet, simply add them as a buddy in your roster. Then, once they have accepted your request you may browse their library whenever they are online.

  5. How do I download songs in Mojo?
First, double click on the service you would like to browse. After the library has loaded, simply select the download button next to the songs you would like to download, or select multiple songs and choose the download button in the bottom right corner of the window. The songs you have chosen will automatically be downloaded to your computer and added to your iTunes library.

  6. What limitations does Mojo have if I don't purchase a license?
Mojo does not limit the length of time you can use the application. Also, there are no limitations on browsing users over the local network. Mojo only limits the number of Internet buddies whose music you can browse. Also, in the Mac version subscriptions are limited to the pro version.

  7. How does the application determine which songs already exist in my music library? or I already have a song in my music library, why is it not grayed out?
Currently, we compare the track title and artist to determine if the song exists in your music library. If the title and artist match exactly, the song will be grayed out in the service browser window.

  8. Why does Mojo keep running in the menu bar after I quit the application?
The Mojo helper continues to run in the menu bar to keep your subscriptions up to date. Also, it allows other users to browse your music without taking up space in your dock. When the Mojo helper is running in the menu bar, it will notify you of users joining the network using growl. You can have Mojo launch at login to ensure your subcriptions stay up to date and to keep you alerted to other users on the network, while using minimal system resources.

  9. Do I have to keep Mojo running all the time to have my subscriptions updated?
Mojo does not need to be running in the dock for your subscriptions to be updated. However, the Mojo helper does need to be running in the menu bar to keep your subscriptions up to date.

  10. Do I have to set my computer to not go to sleep when someone is browsing my library or downloading music?
No, Mojo prevents idle sleep while other users are browsing your library or downloading music.

  11. If I remove someone from my roster, will they still know when I'm online, and can they still connect to me?
No, once you have removed a buddy from your roster they will no longer know your online status. Also, they will not be able to connect to you unless you approve them again.

  12. Can anyone on the Internet connect to my computer?
In almost all cases, the only people who can connect to your Mojo library are users you have approved. Also, most users are connected to the Internet through a router. Routers block all unknown incoming connections. It is technically possible for someone to attempt a connection to your library IF you have a direct connection to the Internet, and IF they know the port Maetsro is running on (which by default is chosen randomly). For added security, there is an option to password protect your library using digest access authentication.

  13. Can I connect to a different server besides the one Deusty provides?
Mojo has currently only been tested with our own server. However, it may be possible now and you are welcome to try it out. We plan to improve compatibility with other XMPP (Jabber) servers in the near future, and this is a big part of our vision of Mojo.
